Is It Possible to Perform Vinyl Fence Repair

How Does One Repair Minor Holes in a Vinyl Fence?

A vinyl fence is durable, looks good, and is inexpensive. As it is made from low-maintenance materials and does not require much attention with regards to maintenance to remain looking good. But, accidents, hard freezes, and heat will crack or puncture a vinyl fence. This then begs the question of, can fence repair be done on a vinyl fence?

The answer is yes, and, most homeowners can do basic repairs easily and quickly. Below is a step-by-step guide you can use to repair the damage, using of all things, auto body filler.

Carve Away Any Rough Edges

The first step is to remove any rough edges from around the crack or hole. Burrs or splinters will often interfere with repairs, and these rough spots will leave unsightly areas once you have finished.

Carefully trim inside the crack or hole with a utility knife to remove all the rough spots. For the best results, cut a bevel along the edge; as this will help you create a smoother transition when it comes to applying the filler.

Sand the Area Around the Damage

Once you have successfully removed all the rough edges around the damaged area, the next step will be to use 200-grit sandpaper that will smooth out the repair site. Sand any rough spots away that you have missed. Then, transition to a piece of 400-grit sandpaper to smooth the area further.

Clean the Immediate Area

Once you have done all the above, your next step in the process will be to remove any chemicals or oils that will stop the filler from adhering to the vinyl. Simply soak an old rag in some isopropyl alcohol, then wipe down the area that surrounds the opening on the fence. Now you are ready to apply the filler.
